An overhead projector is a great tool to play and explore with light. One could think that it is a machine that belongs to the past century, but it is simple enough to offer a great spectrum of possibilities!
We use our overhead with our toddlers while playing with the cube and it really makes a difference. Children make their hypotheses and search for results to prove them while being totally active and independent in the process.
The older kids use the overhead projector as well. One more time kids explore the possibilities of this tool and experiment with it until they get the result they are satisfied with.
Pay attention at how this group of kids works with these toys and realizes that the objects have to be in horizontal to get the result they are searching for (the doll on the first picture doesn’t show the way they expected, and that’s why they decide that the dinosaurs should lay down)
It can also be a great tool to play with geometry and colors. These kids realize that triangles can help them build other shapes!
Just a great tool to have in the classroom ateljé!
